MDF's new address from February, 2010

MDF has administrative offices at The Cotton Exchange, Liverpool. There are no services for individual disabled people available at these offices: MDF works at a strategic level and supports voluntary groups that are of and for disabled people.

NB: There is no public entrance to The Cotton Exchange on its the western side in Old Hall Street (the side with the Starbucks Coffee House) - the public entrance is in Bixteth Street on the eastern side.

Where in The Cotton Exchange are we?

  • use the public entrance to the Cotton Exchange on Bixteth Street (not Old Hall Street)
  • take the lift to the 6th floor
  • turn right out of the lift
  • turn right again at the end of the corridor
  • When you arrive at another lift. MDF is on the right, where we share offices with Merseyside Expanding Horizons

How to get to us using Public Transport:

Liverpool Lime Street is the nearest mainline station, with direct trains to London and the Midlands, to Manchester (and Manchester Airport), to Yorkshire and the North East.

From Liverpool Lime Street you can use the Merseyrail underground system to get to Moorfields (the nearest station).

  • Take any Wirral Line train from Liverpool Lime Street
  • At the next stop (Liverpool Central) change to the Northern Line
  • Take any train to Southport, Ormskirk or Kirkby
  • Moorfields is the next stop

The nearest Merseyrail station is Moorfields. To get to MDF from Moorfields station:

  • From Moorfields station take the exit for "Old Hall Street" - not the exit for "Moorfields".
  • When you reach street level (via steps), turn right onto Old Hall Street
  • Take the second right into Ormond Street
  • At the end of that street turn left into Bixteth Street
  • The Cotton Exchange main entrance is on left

from Manchester and the M62

follow signs for City Centre and Albert Dock

  • A5080 Edge Lane Drive, continue straight ahead onto
  • A5047 Edge Lane, turn left onto
  • Towerlands Street, bear right onto
  • Irvine Street, continue straight ahead onto
  • Mount Vernon, continue straight ahead onto
  • West Derby Street, continue straight ahead onto
  • Pembroke Road, continue straight ahead onto
  • London Road, bear right onto
  • Commutation Row, bear left onto
  • A57 Churchill Way (flyover), continue straight ahead onto
  • Dale Street, turn right onto
  • A565 Exchange Street East, turn right onto
  • A5046 Tithebarn Street, then ...

... for on-street parking: turn left onto Bixteth St for the main entrance to the Cotton Exchange (on the left) with on-street meter parking in Bixteth St and other nearby streets

... for off-street parking, Turn second left onto Pall Mall for the NCP car park. There is access on foot to Bixteth St (and the Cotton Exchange's main entrance) from the rear of this NCP car park.


from Wirral and Chester through the Birkenhead (Queensway) tunnel

  • take the left turn at the junction within the tunnel
  • at the tunnel exit, bear left onto
  • A5046 Chapel Street, then ...

... for off-street parking, Turn left onto Rumford Place - there are NCP car parks to the left

... for on-street parking, Turn third left onto Bixteth St for the main entrance to the Cotton Exchange (on the left) and for on-street meter parking in Bixteth St and other nearby streets


from Chester, the M53 and the Wallasey (Kingsway) tunnel

  • Follow signs for Docks and bear left onto A59
  • turn right onto A5053 Leeds Street, then ...


... for off-street parking: second turn left onto Pall Mall then right into the NCP car park (NCP). There is access on foot to Bixteth St and to the Cotton Exchange Main Entrance from the rear of this NCP car park.

... for on-street parking: third turn left onto A565 Old Hall Street, then turn second left onto Edmund Street and turn right into Bixteth Street. There is meter parking in all these streets.

Car parking near our office

There is "pay and display" parking in Bixteth St, Edmund St, Old Hall St and other streets in the area, currently £1 for the first 30 minutes (as at 1/3/10) with a 2 hour maximum stay. Normally there are some spaces available.

There are off-street car parks (managed by NCP, for example) in Pall Mall and at New Quay and both of these are within two minutes walk of The Cotton Exchange.

By cycle: There are cycle racks on Old Hall Street (outside Sainsbury's)

From the pavement and the public entrance in Bixteth St, there are no steps or ramps before you get to MDF's offices.

... from Moorfields Merseyrail station

Two lifts take you from the platform to ticket office level. There are two exits to Moorfields Station. Use the "Moorfields" exit, not the "Old Hall Street" exit.

  • at Moorfields Merseyrail station leave by the spiral ramp down to the street (Moorfields)
  • turn right and travel to the end of Moorfields
  • cross over to the other side of Moorfields and continue west along Tithebarn St.
  • at the next lights, cross over Tithebarn St to the left side of Bixteth St
  • continue, crossing St. George and Ormond St. (Caution: at these two junctions there is non-standard "drop-curb. The curb is lower, but there is still an irregular step of 1-2 inches).
  • The public entrance to the Cotton Exchange is on the left.

Apart from the Ormond St. and George St. junctions, all crossing points on this route regulation Have "drop curbs" raised with appropriate markings.


... Merseyrail station from St James

  • Two lifts take you from platform to ticket office level
  • turn left at the station exit (St James)
  • Castle St. and turn left, then at the end of the street turn right into Dale St
  • cross Dale Street and turn left onto East Exchange St
  • at the end of the street, turn right into Tithebarn St. Cross the street and turn left into St Bixteth
  • Continue, crossing St. George St and Ormond. (Caution: at these two junctions there is no standard "drop-curb". The curb is lower, but there is still an irregular step of 2-3 inches)
  • The public entrance to the Cotton Exchange is on the left

Apart from the Ormond St. and George St. junctions, all crossing points on this route have regulation "drop curbs" with appropriate markings.
