Real help for Communities: Modernisation Fund grants programme (by 17/7/09)
Third Sector organisations can apply (between 1/6/09 and 17/7/09) for grants of £1,000 , to be spent on professional advice helping them to become more resilient and to think about working more closely with others.
Groups getting this funding are then eligible to appy for a second phase in the autumn of 2009, which will provide £10,000 grants to take further steps towards joint working or mergers
You are eligible if you
- are a voluntary group or other Third Sector organisation in England
- have a turnover of between £150,000 and £750,000
- provide "services that meet the needs of people and communities affected by the recession" (for example health, advice, training)

Councillors' Community Initiative Fund (Liverpool)
Open for bidding in June 2009, providing small grants for community and voluntary projects that just benfit a single ward in Liverpool. The scope of the fund is very wide, providing support to communities to run events or activities, or to improve facilities that will improve the well-being of local residents. It is likely that locally-based groups (and new applicants) will get priority
Grants are from £150 to £5,000. The closing date for first round applications is 27/7/09. (There will be other rounds later in 2009, in wards where funds are still available). Contact Liverpool City Council Community Resources Unit for more information.

Active Parks Fund (Liverpool)
The Liverpool Sport & Physical Activity Alliance is now accepting applications for the "Active Parks Fund" – for projects that involve adults in weekly physical activity in a Liverpool park or open space.
Up to £2500 is available for projects that engage adults & families in weekly physical activity in a Liverpool park open space. The Active Parks Fund is open to not-for-profit groups delivering to local adults and families (It's not available for activities that only work with young people).
Disabled adults and adult men with a "specific health condition" are among the Fund's target groups. There are two application round in 2009 with deadline dates of 5/5/09 and 5/6/09.

Mental Health Grant Scheme
Funding is available for community groups in Liverpool which promote well-being and challenge the stigma surrounding mental health issues. The funding of up to £1,000 is available from Liverpool Mental Health Awareness (LMHA). The applications deadline for 2008 is 10/12/08:

Grants available "to voluntary groups working with disadvantaged people [disabled people are one priority] to improve their chances of entering the labour market". Funding can be for schemes which provide taster work experience (and that includes volutary work), training advice and guidance, for confidence buildinga and personal development, or for support to overcome barriers to learning or to jobs. For voluntary groups in Cheshire, Warrington or Halton, up to £12,000 per organisation, available until 2010.

Small grants are available to local voluntary groups working in Pathways Areas in Liverpool, especially where there are one-off projects bringing communities together or helping break down barriers to learning or employment. Funds are from Liverpool Neighbourhood Regeneration Programme, and application should be made through Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services (LCVS).

Funding of up to £500,000 is being made available from 2008 by the Big Lottery for voluntary groups wanting to carry out projects which will help achieve the Big Lottery’s social and medical research outcomes. Groups are encouraged to link with universities or other research organisations, but applications are only accepted from voluntary organisations. A programme of support - from Third Sector First - is available for groups who are thinking of applying.

Mersey Docks and Harbour Company 500 Fund

Priority will be given to smaller groups and those without access to other funding streams. Grants can be used for almost anything provided it is connected to the charitable aims of your group and will be awarded to the most innovative applications.

Grants are available to individuals for short periods of informal study overseas. There are different categories each year, and often the subject fields are of interest to people involved in groups of or for disabled people. For example, in 2007 they are looking for applicants involved in "teaching, development or organisation of Special Educational Needs of all age ranges" and "projects that examine any aspects of enriching life for the elderly" . Closing date is in October each year for travel the following year.
Social Risk Capital (SRC) Funding - for information only, applications are now closed
Social Risk Capital funding was part of the Objective One Programme of the European Social Fund (ESF). MDF distributed small grants to voluntary and community sector organisations of and for disabled people across Merseyside for Objective One.
This programme is now closed and we can accept no more applications.
